The MIW Human Intelligence Framework

MIW Intelligence Framework image.png

A clear, human-centred model that explains how your intelligence works – so you can access higher clarity, resilience, and potential.

Understand the deeper mechanics behind intelligence and learn how your mind, body, emotions, brain, and consciousness work together to shape your everyday experience.

How MIW Understands Intelligence

MIW sees intelligence as your ability to understand your current state, move toward a meaningful desired state, and adapt effectively as life changes.

  • Within the MIW framework, intelligence is defined as:

“The inherent capability of any entity to use its own resources to assess the current state, aim toward a desired state, and find ways to reach that state — with the ability to repeat the process as conditions change.”

  • Most definitions of intelligence either:

    • Focus too narrowly on logical reasoning (IQ)

    • Become too broad by turning every ability into an “intelligence”

    • Fail to explain why intelligence fluctuates

    • Cannot be applied universally (humans, animals, AI, systems)

MIW’s definition is functional, meaning it explains how intelligence works rather than just what it looks like.

It allows intelligence to be examined across:

    • Humans

    • Artificial systems

    • Animals

    • Potentially any adaptive entity

    • When your mind interprets a situation → intelligence assesses your current state.

    • When you set a goal or desire → intelligence defines a desired state.

    • When you solve a problem → intelligence finds ways using resources.

This definition creates a mechanism, not a category — which is why MIW is capable of mapping intelligence across all contexts.

Explaining Human Intelligence

The Human Intelligence Loop

The MIW framework explains intelligence as a five-step repeating loop:

  1. Assess your current state

  2. Aim toward a desired state or outcome

  3. Find ways using your internal and external resources

  4. Apply learning and adjust intentionally

  5. Adapt as conditions change

This loop runs continuously, shaping how intelligently you think, act, decide, relate, and grow.

  • This loop reveals that intelligence is:

    • Not fixed

    • Not linear

    • Not about being “smart”

    • But about adaptive thinking and intentional action

  • How this loop appears in everyday life:

    Example 1 — Emotional Moment

    • You feel anxious (current state).

    • You want to feel calmer (desired state).

    • You take a breath or reframe the situation (resources).

    • You steady yourself (adjustment).

    • You continue navigating calmly (adaptation).

    Example 2 — Work Problem

    • Identify an issue

    • Define the outcome

    • Explore solutions

    • Test and refine

    • Adjust as new information emerges

This loop happens constantly — intelligence is not a single moment, but a continuous process.

How MIW Builds on Existing Views of Intelligence

Ideas such as IQ and multiple intelligences have long influenced society, yet there's now room to broaden the explanation by incorporating the followings:

  • Intelligence capabilities fluctuate

  • Stress blocks abilities

  • Awareness affects performance

  • Two people with identical IQs function differently

  • Bodily states influence thinking

  • Conscious and automatic processes interact

MIW fills the gaps with a holistic, state-based, and systems-oriented model.

  • IQ-based models have provided valuable insight into logical reasoning and problem-solving under controlled conditions.

At the same time, many researchers and practitioners acknowledge that IQ does not capture areas such as:

    • Emotional experience

    • Creativity

    • Self-awareness

    • Adaptability

    • The impact of stress or state changes

These factors also play important roles in how people function day to day.

  • Broader frameworks, such as Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences, helped draw attention to the diversity of human abilities.

However, they were not designed to:

    • Describe how different abilities interact, or

    • Provide a single mechanism that explains why intelligence capabilities fluctuate in real life

  • MIW does not replace any of these theories. Instead, it takes inspiration from several fields — psychology, neuroscience, behaviour, systems thinking, and lived experience — to emphasize:

    • The role of state in shaping intelligence

    • The interdependence of mind, body, emotions, brain, and awareness

    • A mechanism (the intelligence loop) that describes how intelligence functions moment to moment

    • A clear look at alignment, which influences how different internal sources work together

The MIW framework aims to complement existing models by offering a practical, integrated way to understand intelligence as a dynamic, evolving human process.

The Three Core Principles

MIW Framework is based on a set of principles which fall under three core categories.

  • Your intelligence is affected by the interplay of:

    • Body (nervous system, energy, physical state)

    • Brain (automatic + conscious processing)

    • Mind (meaning-making, interpretation)

    • Emotions (signals + energy shifts)

    • Conscious awareness (intentionality, observation)

    This interdependence explains:

    • Why stress can shut down thinking

    • Why physical wellbeing improves clarity

    • Why emotional regulation improves decision-making

    • Why awareness expands intelligence

Each system influences the others — you cannot separate “thinking” from “your state.”

  • Automatic processes include:

    • Habits

    • Emotional reactions

    • Reflexes

    • Impulses

    • Pattern-based thinking

These are faster than conscious processes and often dominate under stress.

    Conscious intelligence includes:

    • Reflection

    • Intentional decision-making

    • Self-awareness

    • Regulation

    • Meaning-making

Conscious processes allow you to guide automatic ones, but only when your state is regulated.

  • You can only use intelligence in the present.

    • The past = memory

    • The future = imagination

    • Intelligence = action in now

When your mind is trapped in past/future loops:

    • You lose clarity

    • You misinterpret situations

    • You react instead of respond

MIW teaches presence not as spirituality, but as functional intelligence optimisation.

States & Alignment

🟥 Survival State (SNS)

Reactive, stressed, narrow-focus, emotionally triggered, reduced clarity.

🟩 Thriving State (PSNS)

Calm, clear, creative, intentional, emotionally regulated.

Shifting between these states explains why we act intelligently at times and counter-intuitively at other.

  • Triggered by stress, fear, overwhelm.
The system narrows focus and prioritizes protection.

    You experience:

    • Emotional reactivity

    • Reduced reasoning

    • Memory distortion

    • Overwhelm

    • Impulsive decisions

  • Your nervous system opens access to:

    • Creativity

    • Emotional balance

    • Reasoning

    • Connection

    • Higher intelligence

Learning to shift state is one of the fastest pathways to improving intelligence.

MIW 8 sources of intelligence.png

The 8 Sources of Human Intelligence

MIW recognises eight core sources of intelligence within us.

When functioning with certain level of alignment, each source turns from potential into active form of intelligence.

When misaligned, each becomes counterintuitive to our intelligent capabilities.

  • 🧠 Essence: Thinking, reasoning, clarity, meaning-making

    Source: Cognition
    Intelligence: Cognitive Intelligence
Cognitive processes organise information, reason through situations, and evaluate options.
When clear and balanced, thinking supports accurate assessment, problem-solving, and decision-making.
